Whether in the formal or informal, organised or unorganised sector, youth are increasingly forced into jobs in which they have little or no say and are in positions of extreme vulnerability. These jobs could be in agriculture, manufacturing and the services sectors. Given the difficulty of finding employment, employers exploit the weakness of the youth to accept jobs on terms that leave little time for rest or leisure at wages that are extremely low. Unpaid internships, uncompensated overtime, unsafe work spaces are issues that youth have to face. It is necessary that youth are able to protect themselves from the exploitation of employers and have fair representation of their concerns through the formation of unions.
